Party food can be fun, taste great and be easy to make. Here are some recipe ideas for your Stroogle party.
Stroogle Cake (as submitted by Alison Glover)
- For this recipe you will need a round cake tin for the head and a large rectangle cake tin for the body.
- Make the cake base using a standard vanilla or chocolate recipe.

- Once the cakes are cooked and cooled, cut the bottom off the circle cake and connect it to the rectangle cake. Cut out the shape of the body and legs from the rectangle cake and use the discarded pieces to make ears and arms.
- Ice the cake using green, yellow, orange, red, blue and purple icing and a light cream colour for the face, hands and feet.

- Draw the face using black icing (in a bag) or licorice strips.
- Cover with candles and sing happy birthday!

Make a Stroogle Face (this is a great party activity where kids make their own)
On a Milk Arrowroot or Marie biscuit, use pink icing to cover the biscuit. Sprinkle coloured sprinkles around the edge of the face like feathers. Use the following lollies for facial features:
- Ears - Mint leaves or the heads of green snakes
- Eyes - White marshmallows cut in half with brown smarties in the centre
- Mouth - the tail of a red snake
- Nose- pink smartie.
Domino's
Cut pieces of white or wholemeal bread in half. Spread with Nutella or peanut butter to form two squares, leaving a strip in the middle. Use smarties to make different domino numbers.
Frogs in the Pond
You need green jelly and chocolate frogs (or use green and red frogs). Make up the green jelly as the packet instructions and pour into bowls. When it is nearly set drop a frog into each bowl. Looks great and is a great accompaniment to the cake.
Rainbow Coconut Ice
- 4 cups icing sugar
- 3 cups coconut
- 1 tin condensed milk
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
- Mix all ingredients and divide into four small bowls.
- Add green, yellow, red and blue food colouring to each bowl.
- Layer the mixture in a shallow tin by pressing the colours on top of each other.
- Chill until firm.
The Stroogle's Cherry Marshmallow Fudge
- 1 tablespoon water
- 90 g margarine
- 250 g pink and white marshmallows
- 200 g dark cooking chocolate
- 1/4 cup chopped red glace cherries
- Place the water, margarine and marshmallows in a saucepan and heat over a very, very low heat, stirring regularly, until the marshmallows are melted.
- Break the chocolate into squares and add to the pan. Remove from the heat. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted.
- Stir through the cherries, then pour the mixture into a lined 16 cm square pan. Allow to cool, then refrigerate until set.
- Cut into small pieces when required. Store in an airtight container in the fridge. Makes approximately 50 pieces.
A boat from the Stream
Butter half a bread roll, top with lettuce, tomato and ham and use a cheese triangle to make the sail. Stand it up with a toothpick. Looks great and is a fun way for children to enjoy a healthy snack!
